Department of Human Anatomy Department of Human Anatomy was established in July 1950. The founders of the department were the academicians Jian Rennan and Wu Rukang. The present staff is composed of 14 teachers and 4 technicians. It is equipped with 8 labs involved about 140 jar-preserved specimens and non-container specimens, there are 3 sets involved 400 pieces (this kind of scope is rare in domestic medical colleges). Since 1993, this faculty sponsored 6 terms of Japan NCA Anatomy Training Class. Its program includes Systemic Anatomy, Regional Anatomy, Regional Anatomy of Cosmetology and Anatomy of Central Nervous system. The research projects are anatomy of central nervous system, cardiovascular anatomy, anatomy of skeletal muscle and humanics. Department of Histology – embryology Department of Histology- embryology was established in 1947. The older generations, such as Professor Xue Shepu had been positioned as the Directors. Now there are 2 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 1 Lecturer, 1 Assistant and 4 Technicians. This department has been undertaking the research Work on Transgenic Animal which is one of National 863 Project. It also has been under taking the research work on multi-drug resistance, which is one of projects of Liaoning Province Science and Technology Committee. The department has the teaching courses of Histology-embryology, Histochemistry, Cytochemistry and Electron Microscopy. Department of Physiology Department of Physiology was established in 1949. Its founder was Professor Wu Xiang, the famous physiologist and educationalist in China. Today, there are 11 teachers and 3 technicians. It is qualified to offer PhD degree and MS degree. The research concerns pathogenesis & prevention of epilepsy, prevention of physiological excitability brain damage and physiology of the alimentary system and the Kidneys supported by the state, province and municipality. The department undertakes teaching courses of physiology, neurophysiology, neurobiology, renal physiology and physiology of alimentary system. There were many textbook edited. Department of Biochemistry Department of Biochemistry was established in 1949. It is teaching and scientific research center of biochemistry & molecular biology in Liaoning province. The department is qualified to offer PhD Degree and MS Degree. Now there are 18 teachers and 5 technicians. It is one of departments with the highest level of teaching and scientific research capability in DMU. Recently, it has been equipped with several advanced equipments such as DNA synthesizer, florescence diagnostic PCR and capillary electrophoresis. Its teaching courses are biochemistry, advanced biochemistry, technology of advanced biochemistry & molecular biology, biochemistry literature index, new progress of biochemistry & molecular biology and signal transduction, etc. The research projects include glycobiology, lipids and signal transduction, genetic engineering, tumor molecular biology and protein engineering. It has ever sponsored almost 10 projects of National Natural Science Foundation. It has obtained awards on achievements of science and technology of province and the ministry for many times. Department of Biology Department of Biology was established by Professor Wu Lv who was a famous biologist in China. Today there are 9 teachers and 3 technicians. Recently, the university invested around 2 million RMB to rebuild a large-scale lab and equip new facilities. Now it owns 1 molecular Pathology lab, 1 cell culture lab, 1 DNA lab, 1 RNA lab, 1 bioinformatics lab and 1 large tissue/ cell freezer equipment. Its possesses the conditions to systematically research pathology, characters of cellular biology, and molecular genetics of pathological cells at different levels of tissue, cell, gene and genome. 3 courses including medical cellular biology, medical genetics and medical biology are available. Its main research orientation is to study cellular and molecular biology characters on brain tumors and alimentary tumors. Department of Pharmacology Department of Pharmacology was established in 1949. The founder was Professor Zhang Yi. There are 12 teachers and 2 technicians. The courses include Basic Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics. The main target of scientific research is focused on cardiovascular pharmacology and biochemical pharmacology. This department develops rapidly and makes great progress in teaching quality, teaching management and teaching innovation. It also has made rapid progress in 4 research targets. This department has sponsored projects of National Natural Science Foundation for 4 times and a group of projects of province and municipality. The awards of achievements for scientific research have been awarded for many times by the state, province and municipality. Department of Pathology Department of Pathology was established in 1947. Professor Yang Jian, who is a famous pathologist and academician, participated to establish the department. Today, there are 11 teachers and 3 technicians. It is qualified to offer PhD degree and MS degree. In 1993, this department cooperated with Japan CRC to establish Sino-Japan Clinical Pathologic Center, which now it has already been added two names of Liaoning Clinical Pathologic Center and Dalian Pathologic Quality Control Center. It possesses 4 teaching labs, 1 cell incubation lab, 1 academic hall and 1 body dissection lab. The courses including pathology, forensic medicine, molecular pathology and tumor tissue culture are available. Its main target approaches to molecular pathology of clinical tumor, metastasis model of animal tumor and cardiovascular pathology. There are about 12,000 cases of extramural pathologic tests, about 40 cases of body dissection, almost 100 cases of forensic pathology per year. This department has sponsored many projects of National Natural Science Foundation. It has gained many awards of scientific and technologic achievement awarded by the province and municipality. Department of Immunology Department of Immunology has 4 teachers and 1 technician. The courses including basic immunology, clinical immunology and molecular immunology are available. Its main scientific research target approaches anti-tumor effect of lymphocyte chemotactic factor, tumor drug-resistance and tumor metastasis, treatment effect of DNA vaccine on brain diseases. Department of Pathophysiology Department of Pathophysiology was established in 1956, which is one of the earliest Pathophysiologic teaching & research departments in the northeast of China. In 1990s, it was also only one site which was qualified to offer PhD degree of Pathophysiology in the province. Lead by academicians of old generations, this department has made great achievements. It has obtained the title of municipality advanced collectivity and provincial key disciplines. For years, this department has trained over 50 students for MS degree and over 20 students for PhD degree. Since 1978, it has gained over 40 awards of scientific and technologic progress with over 500 academic papers published and won pretty good reputation in domestic. Department of Parasitology Department of Parasitology was established in 1947. It is well known around China. At present, there is 1 professor, 1 associate professor, 1 lecturer, 1 senior technician and 1 technician. In 1983, this department was authorized to offer MS Degree. This department strives to research biology of periodical Brugia malayi and prevention and treatment of filariasis malayi. Department of Microbiology Department of Microbiology was established by Professor Wei Xi, a famous microbiologist in China, after he returned back to China in 1951. Today, its staff members are young and promising. There are 9 teachers and 4 technicians. It is one of sites to offer MS degree and also a key discipline in the province. Its main research target focuses on anti-tumor and its treatments, which is described as follows: 1. Anti-tumor effect of biologic factors; 2. Treatment effect of Chinese herbal medicine on tumor and research & development of these medicines; 3. The relationship of virus and tumor. College of Cosmetologic Medicine Plastic and reconstructive surgery is the backbone discipline in this college. Depending on tremendous teaching resources and advanced facilities of basic medicine & clinical medicine in Dalian Medical University, its teaching network has been established throughout China with the core in Dalian. this college has perfect special teaching team and advanced facilities. there are 600 students in this specialty have been graduated. Today, they play very important roles in the field of cosmetologic medicine around China. Now there are 40 professional teachers in this college. the main courses not only include the courses concerning basic medicine and clinical medicine, but also include Cosmetologic Anatomy, Cosmetic Chemistry, Cosmetic Psychology, Hair-Beauty and Making-up, Fashion Aesthetics, Fine Arts, Surgical Cosmetology, and Pharmaceutical cosmetology, Meridian Cosmetology, Fitness Cosmetology etc. College of Stomatology Founded in 1985 with a staff of 80 members, including 19 full and associate professors. Sixty four freshmen are recruited each year. Five department are included in this school, viz., basic stomatology, surgical stomatology, internal stomatology, repair stomatology, and orthopedic stomatology. It is equipped with many sophisticated surgical instruments. In recent years, 18 research projects have been funded from state, provincial and municipal sources. Dept.of Obstetrics and Gynecology Set up in 1993 with a teaching staff of 54members, of whom 12 are full professors and associate professors. It is divided into 2 teaching sections and a reproduction research group and a genetic laboratory. The main courses opened are obstetrics, gynecology, reproduction endocrinology, perinatal medicine, eugenetics, female health care, family planning. It enrolls 32 students yearly. Institute of Cardiovascular disease Engaged in studies on the intervention treatment of coronary disease and prevention of restenosis after PTCA, on the radiofrequency catheter ablation treatment of arrhythmia, on the cardiac electrophysiological study of atrial fibrillation, on the studies of epidemiology, prevention and treatment of hypertension in Dalian region, and on the echocardiographic study of left atrial and left ventricular function in patients with congestive heart failure. Director: Jiang Chao; deputy Director: Jia Shu-hua. Institute of Osteology Engaged in studies on fracture healing improvement, on prevention of tendon tissue adhesion, and on the spinal biomechanics. Director: Jiang Chang-ming; Deputy Director: Lu De-cheng. Institute of Medical Imaging Engaged in studies on early diagnosis of small hepatic cellular carcinoma and small lung cancer by dynamic CT and MRI, based on the comparison with pathological studies, and on the study of intervention treatment of acute lung embolism.
